On the 9th, Gangwon Energy announced that it signed a master contract with Japanese battlefield and precision motor company Nidek to promote a cooling water distribution unit (CDU) project for data centers in Kyoto, Japan on the 6th.
Through this contract, Gangwon Energy will be in charge of services for the overall AI data center field-based tasks such as CDU installation, commissioning, and maintenance by receiving a Nidek request. In the future, individual projects will be carried out according to the signing of separate contracts with customers and Nidek.
CDUs are equipment that controls heat generated from high-performance servers in a liquid cooling method. According to multiple market researchers, including Global Market Insights, the global data center liquid cooling market is expected to grow at an annual rate of 18-25% from 2026 to the mid-2030s.
Nidek is a Japanese electrical and precision motor company that is promoting the development of products and technologies related to liquid cooling solutions such as CDUs in response to the recent increase in demand for server cooling due to the spread of AI data centers. Gangwon Energy, which has been conducting industrial plants and secondary battery facility projects, also plans to expand its business opportunities to the data center cooling infrastructure sector with this contract.
Shin Jin-yong, CEO of Gangwon Energy, said, "We will also proceed with individual project consultations at a rapid pace to create continuous business opportunities."
