Iljin Electric (CEO Yoo Sang-seok), a comprehensive power equipment company, is speeding up its efforts to enter the European market by winning a large-scale ultra-high-voltage power grid construction project in the UK, a power-advanced country.
Iljin Electric announced on the 10th that it has won an order for some sections of the 400kV ultra-high-voltage underground transmission line among a total of 180Km strategic ultra-high-voltage transmission grid reinforcement project linking eastern and southeastern England. The order amount is about £41.77 million, worth about 84.5 billion won.
This project is a key system reinforcement project to stably deliver large-scale offshore wind power produced in eastern England to the southeastern region where power demand is concentrated. It is considered an essential infrastructure for expanding renewable energy in the UK and achieving the goal of decarbonizing the power system.
In particular, the order is considered to be the result of Iljin Electric's technology and quality reliability in the UK electricity market, which is famous for its high entry barriers and strictness.
Iljin Electric plans to use this order as a bridgehead to strengthen its position in the UK's ultra-high voltage transmission market to spur additional orders.
An official from Iljin Electric said, "This order is a feat that proved our ultra-high voltage cable technology in the UK market, which is facing a major power infrastructure transition," adding, "We will actively participate in the large-scale power grid expansion project announced in the future and expand the market throughout Europe."
