Maeil Dairies Holds University Student AI Video Contest... Up to KRW 12 Million in Prize Money and a Chance to Join Its Content Crew
Contest application period and number of winners
Maeil Dairies Co., Ltd., led by CEOs Kim Sun-hee and Lee In-gi, will hold the second university student AI video contest. Submissions will be accepted through Aug. 17, and eight winners will be selected to receive a total of KRW 12 million in prize money. Winners will also be given the opportunity to join an external activity crew. The final winning entries are scheduled to be announced on Aug. 31.
Contest theme and product categories
This year's contest calls for 30-second short-form AI videos featuring Maeil Dairies products. Participants must choose one of three categories set by the company. The nutrition category includes Absolute, Sellex Profit, and Milsera. The global category includes Sellex Protein. The brand category covers Maeil Soy Milk, Amazing Oat, Picnic, and Barista Rules. Participants should select one product and use generative AI to create a video of up to 30 seconds that captures the appeal of the brand and product.
Judging criteria and eligibility
Entries will be judged on five criteria: creativity, relevance to the theme, technical skill, completeness, and public appeal and potential for spread. The contest is open to current university or graduate students nationwide, students on leave, and those expected to graduate soon.
Awards and winner benefits
The total prize pool of KRW 12 million will be awarded as follows: one first-place winner will receive KRW 3 million, two second-place winners will receive KRW 2 million each, and five third-place winners will receive KRW 1 million each. Winners will also be offered a chance to participate in the second Maeil Dairies Content Crew. Those who take part in the roughly three-month program will receive an official certificate and an activity stipend. Last year's first contest participation
In last year's inaugural contest, Maeil Dairies drew 231 submissions from 88 universities nationwide, confirming strong interest from Gen Z. The second contest was launched to strengthen communication with Gen Z and incorporate their creative ideas into brand marketing.
A Maeil Dairies official said, "As AI technology becomes more advanced, Gen Z is the generation that most actively embraces and learns from it." The official added, "We will continue to use digital environments and AI technologies preferred by people in their teens and 20s to communicate closely with consumers and carry out innovative brand communication."
Maeil Dairies' Gen Z outreach efforts
Through its official social media channels on Instagram, YouTube, X, and Threads, Maeil Dairies has broadened its contact with Gen Z by showcasing a variety of short-form AI content, including AI fashion shows and miniature villages. Last year, it also expanded collaboration with younger generations by operating a university student support group made up of the first cohort of the AI video contest winners, known as the first Maeil Dairies Content Crew, and foreign students serving as Global Campus Creators.
