Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 15th, "It's really unfortunate," regarding the arrest of Yoon Suk Yeol's president, adding, "It's time to quickly restore the constitutional order and focus on people's livelihoods and the economy."
Lee responded to reporters' questions about the arrest of President Yoon after a general meeting of lawmakers at the National Assembly.
Representative Lee canceled the Supreme Council's schedule scheduled for that day. Party leaders also skipped public remarks by the Supreme Council. In other words, he seemed to refrain from messaging as much as possible.
A Democratic Party official said, "As the political situation is severe, the leadership is trying to maintain a cautious attitude."
Representative Lee attended the party's 'National Conference on Emergency Measures of Local Governments' held at the National Assembly this afternoon.
The event was organized by heads of local governments belonging to the Democratic Party to discuss ways to revitalize the people's livelihood economy. It was originally planned as a public event, but it was held behind closed doors in consideration of the political situation.
Representative Lee said at the event, "The local government should take care of the people's livelihood because it is too difficult to live under the impeachment situation. "It is not the government or the ruling party, but please allow local governments to ease local problems through their financial capabilities or policy supply," Rep. Shin Jung-hoon, chairman of the Democratic Party's very good local government committee, told reporters.
