Twenty-one people were injured in a chemical leak accident at an Incheon resort-type apartment.

On the 10th, the Incheon Fire Department finally counted 21 people injured in the chemical leak accident at an apartment building in Baekseok-dong, Seo-gu.

Among the injured, 19 people, except for supplier employee A (42) and apartment official B (64), are known to be residents in their 10s and 70s. They showed difficulty breathing or dizziness and were taken to the hospital for treatment, and all of them are not life-threatening.

A resident said, "I hurriedly evacuated from the swimming pool and sauna without wearing proper clothes because of a strong smell that I have never smelled before."

This apartment is a so-called "resort-type apartment" with swimming pools, saunas, movie theaters, and three-style services, and is a large complex with 4,800 households in 25 buildings.

A police official said, "All the injured were discharged from the hospital. We plan to investigate whether there was any professional negligence during the work process."

Sodium hypochlorite leaked from the machine room of a swimming pool on the second basement floor of an apartment building in Baekseok-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon at 3:02 p.m. the previous day.

At the time of the accident, it was reported that the hose fell out while A was injecting sodium hypochlorite, a disinfectant, into a storage tank in the machine room. Since then, as chemicals have entered the sewer, strong smells have spread to swimming pools, saunas, and gyms on the same floor.

Sodium hypochlorite is mainly used as a bleach or disinfectant due to its strong oxidative and sterilizing power and can cause respiratory irritation in confined spaces.
