Participation as a joint research and development institution in a consortium

Vehicle mobility software company ivis Inc. (CEO Nam Gi-mo) will join the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's Industrial Cluster Competitiveness Enhancement (R&D) project as a joint research and development institution for the task of developing an AI-based, low-power integrated vehicle infotainment system optimized for a Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) environment.

Project to run for 4 years and 10 months through December 2030

The project will be carried out as a consortium led by the principal research institution, Hyolim XE, with FusionSoft, ivis Inc., the Korea Intelligent Automotive Parts Promotion Institute, the Kyungpook National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, and KAIST participating. It will run for a total of 4 years and 10 months, from March 2026 to December 2030.

Goal is to develop a low-power system for real-time AI inference using NPU

As the automotive industry shifts toward electric vehicles and software-defined vehicles, vehicle infotainment systems are evolving into key platforms that process on-device AI inference, driver monitoring, personalized services, and more in real time. The project aims to develop an integrated vehicle infotainment system that enables real-time AI inference while minimizing power consumption by using a neural processing unit (NPU) specialized for AI workloads, and to raise the technology to a level suitable for actual vehicle deployment.

Responsible for NPU software stack and cloud OTA update system

ivis Inc. will be responsible for three core technology areas: NPU software and AI inference software stack development, a cloud-based OTA (Over The Air) update system, and vehicle cybersecurity static analysis and vulnerability assessment technologies. For the NPU software and AI inference software stack, the company will build a software foundation that allows the in-vehicle NPU to run AI models efficiently. It will also create an environment in which driver state recognition AI and LLM-based voice interaction AI can operate stably and quickly in vehicles.

Remote updates and integrity verification functions to be implemented while driving

In the cloud-based OTA update system area, the company will implement functions that allow vehicles to remotely update AI models and software even while driving. These include update download functions between the cloud OTA server and the vehicle, OTA package integrity checks, signature verification, safe recovery mechanisms in case an update is interrupted, and partial update capabilities.

Security technologies aligned with UN ECE Regulation No. 156 and ISO 24089 to be developed

In the vehicle cybersecurity static analysis and vulnerability assessment area, the company will strengthen its ability to respond to vehicle cybersecurity requirements that meet international standards such as UN ECE Regulation No. 156 and ISO 24089. It will do so by verifying compliance with secure coding rules through static analysis and by developing cyber vulnerability detection scenarios for environments in which infotainment systems are connected to external networks and process sensitive personal data such as biometric and location information.

Strengthening technological competitiveness through integrated development of vehicle AI software

Nam Gi-mo, CEO of ivis Inc., said, "As AI adoption in the automotive industry accelerates, the importance of foundational vehicle AI software technologies such as NPU software for running AI in vehicles, remote updates, and cybersecurity is growing." He added, "Through this project, we will integrate and develop these three core technologies to strengthen our technological competitiveness in the vehicle AI software field."

He also said, "Based on the technological capabilities and demonstration experience we have built in the field of vehicle embedded software, we will establish ourselves as a technology partner that helps automakers and Tier-1 automotive suppliers achieve the localization and commercialization goals of AI-based infotainment platforms."
