Chungcheongnam-do announced on the 15th that it has secured a 120ha limited fishing village fishing license from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
The area subject to the license is an idle tidal flat in the branch of Geolmae-ri, Inju-myeon, Asan-si, located within the port areas of Pyeongtaek and Dangjin ports, but does not interfere with ship traffic and port functions.
The province plans to develop a new fishing ground on the idle tidal flat. It will be operated after implementing consultations with related organizations, attracting returnees and returning villages, and establishing fishing grounds.
The main production varieties are Taste Shell and Chilge. The operation method is in the form of a joint fishing ground where members of the Inju fishing village participate. The annual production is expected to be 104 tons of shellfish and 70 tons of Chilge, and about 1.3 billion won in fishing income is expected to be generated annually.
An official from Chungnam-do said, "It is expected to contribute to increasing the income of fishermen and revitalizing the local economy by converting mudflats that have not been utilized for a long time into productive fishing grounds."
