Provided benefits for prohibiting seizure of deductions
The Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business announced on the 28th that the total number of homeowners for yellow umbrellas reached 188,000 as of the end of June. Yellow Umbrella, a social safety net for small businesses and small business owners, is believed to serve as a pick-up for small business owners' comeback.
By industry, the service industry accounted for the largest share of homeowners in yellow umbrellas with 29.5%. Accommodation and food businesses (26.3%), wholesale and retail businesses (25.3%), and transportation and warehouse businesses (6.4%).
As for the subscription period, 54.1% of those who joined for less than three years accounted for more than three years and 20.8% of those who joined for less than five years, indicating that most of them received deductions within five years of signing up. The average deduction per person is about 12 million won, and the average monthly payment is about 280,000 won. After rejoining, the monthly installment amount increased by about 8% to 303,000 won.
The number of subscribers who signed up for the maximum monthly installment of 1 million won increased by 27% from 11,000 to 14,000 when re-registered, indicating that subscribers who re-registered for the yellow umbrella are more aware of the effect of the deduction.
Meanwhile, the main benefits of the yellow umbrella are up to 6 million won per year in income deductions and prohibitions on the seizure of deductions, and annual compound interest. Business income is deducted according to the installment payment period, and if there is a reason for deduction such as business closure or old age, the entire installment and annual compound interest can be paid.
"The high rate of re-enrollment of small business owners in industries with frequent closures and re-starting shows that the yellow umbrella is doing its job as a social safety net," said Lee Chang-ho, head of the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business Mutual Aid Project. "We will do our best to improve the system so that more small business owners can enjoy greater benefits in the future."
