“Hands are faster than eyes!” Your hand keeps reaching for it, reaching for it again and again—straight to the drawing paper! In May, your child’s imagination comes to life. If this is your first time and it feels unfamiliar, or if you are wondering, “Can my child really do this?” here is the Saeukkang Children's Drawing Contest, where you can ask anything you want.

Q1. A Saeukkang drawing contest? Is this a competition to build castles out of snacks?

No, there is no need to get your hands greasy! This year’s theme is “Saeukkang Drawn Through My Imagination.” Whether Saeukkang flies on a spaceship or rules an underwater kingdom, children can freely bring their imagination to life on an 8-sheet drawing paper.

Q2. This is only the second year ... is the competition level really that “crunchy”?

Last year, a total of 6,313 entries poured in. That is more intense than lining up Saeukkang bags. Still, don’t be intimidated. This year could be your child’s time to shine. If you are aiming for a blue ocean, now is the right moment!

Q3. My child is better at finishing Saeukkang in one bite than drawing. Can we still enter?

Of course! Any elementary school student in Korea or abroad is welcome. Participants will be judged fairly in two divisions: ages 8 to 10 in the lower-grade category, and ages 11 to 13 in the upper-grade category. So there is no need to worry about being outmatched by older kids.

Q4. People say May is not Family Month but Wallet Month. So what about the entry fee?

Nongshim is covering it! Entry is free. Spend May drawing together with your child and enjoy some quality time. It will be a far more meaningful memory than an expensive outing. And if you get hungry while drawing, feel free to open a bag of Saeukkang!

Q5. If the application process is complicated, dads usually give up. Is it easy?

Just draw on the 8-sheet paper, take a photo or scan it, and submit it through Naver Form. That is all! It is a digital-friendly contest that even saves you a trip to the post office. From May 1 to 31, it is easier than eating rice cake while lying down ... or rather, easier than eating Saeukkang while lying down.

Q6. So what do you get if you win first place? That is the most important part.

The grand prize winner will receive a gift certificate worth 500,000 won. A total of 70 works will be selected, so the odds are fairly good. Win both a certificate and a prize, and dinner that night will be meat ... no, it will be a shrimp feast!

Q7. I am curious about what the kids drew last year. Give us a hint, please!

Starting in mid-May, Nongshim’s official website will host an online exhibition of last year’s award-winning works. You will probably think, “Oh, so that is another way to see it!” Take a look with your child and get plenty of inspiration.

In one line: May is when imagination has real “crunch”! Submit your child’s dreams on 8-sheet drawing paper, and their name could be added to the Saeukkang Hall of Fame.
